Muay Thai and why you should try it
We don’t just talk about bookkeeping here today I want to share one of my newfound passions. Over the past couple of months, I’ve had the great pleasure of consistently training Muay Thai. I’m fortunate to have found a great gym with an amazing coach, and it’s quickly become a meaningful part of my life.
I genuinely believe everyone should try at least one combat sport. The reasons are endless, but here are a few of the biggest benefits I’ve experienced:
1. Fitness & Health
Combat sports are a phenomenal workout. My very first day at the gym, I was shocked to see little kids running three to five miles before heading straight into pad work and cardio drills. At the time, I couldn’t even finish the three miles without taking multiple breaks.
Fast forward a couple of months, and I can now run all five miles without stopping and actually feel good afterward. Beyond the endurance gains, my resting heart rate has dropped noticeably, which is a clear sign of better cardiovascular health. Lower heart rates from consistent exercise mean your heart is operating more efficiently, which increases both lifespan and daily energy levels.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to add consistent cardio into your routine.
2. Confidence & Self-Defense
Another huge benefit is the confidence boost. Knowing you have the ability to defend yourself changes the way you carry yourself. Walking into a room with the quiet confidence that, if something ever happened, you’d be prepared that’s a powerful feeling I hope everyone can experience.
At the same time, training is humbling. No matter how good you get, there’s always someone better at the gym. But through hard work, you begin climbing closer to their level. It’s a rewarding process seeing your sweat, effort, and perseverance translate into real progress.
3. Mental Toughness
Of course, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There are days I’m exhausted after work and don’t feel like training. And let’s be honest nobody enjoys getting punched in the face or kicked in the leg until it goes numb.
But that’s where the growth happens. By showing up on the hard days, by sparring when you’d rather rest, you build resilience. You “callous the mind,” and suddenly other challenges in life feel much easier by comparison.
Conclusion
Training Muay Thai has taught me more than just how to throw a punch or block a kick. It’s improved my health, boosted my confidence, and sharpened my mental toughness. Most importantly, it’s reminded me that growth comes from pushing through discomfort.
Whether it’s in business, fitness, or personal life the lessons from combat sports carry over. And if you’ve ever thought about trying one, my advice is simple: start now. The benefits will surprise you.
